Edition 01 · Now an app

Know who's on it.Know where it is.

Nearhand is one shared, current plan for caring for a parent: who handles what, where everything is kept, and the key facts to hand over when it matters.

  • Web app
  • Any phone or computer
  • Free for one person's plan

Opens November 1, 2026Free to start

No card. One person's plan is free, with no time limit.

Two Nearhand screens with a sample family: the plan's home screen and the Emergency Card

It usually starts with a phone call.

  • 01

Mom's in the ER. Your brother asks what she takes, and you're the only one who knows.

  • 02

Everyone assumed someone else called the pharmacy.

  • 03

The insurance card is in a drawer. Probably. At 9 p.m.

Most of the information already exists. It's in one person's head, three phones and a drawer. That works until the person holding it is the one sitting in the waiting room.

Nearhand is a place to write it down once, together, on a calm day, so that on a hard one nobody has to remember it all.

One plan. Everyone knows their part.

  • Know who's on it

Who handles the pharmacy, who talks to the doctors, who drives. A role map and call tree agreed before anything happens, instead of one person doing everything from memory.

  • Know where it is

The health card is in Mom's wallet, the will is in the blue folder, the spare key is with the neighbour. Nearhand records where things are, never the documents or passwords. A map, not a vault.

  • Ready on a hard day

An Emergency Card with the facts a hospital desk asks for: medications, allergies, conditions, who to call. On your phone in ten seconds, and printed in the go-bag.

The Emergency Card

Ten seconds at the hospital desk.

When someone asks "what medications is she on?", you shouldn't be scrolling through texts. The Emergency Card puts the answers on one screen: calm, large, readable at arm's length.

  • Name, date of birth and preferred language
  • Medications, allergies and conditions, as your family entered them
  • Who to call first, and who speaks for health decisions
  • Preferred hospital and insurance reference
  • Print it or save it as a PDF, for the fridge, the go-bag, or when there's no signal
The Nearhand Emergency Card with a sample family: who to call first, allergies and current medications

Set it up on a calm day.

  1. Start free

Create an account and a plan for the person you care for. About five minutes.

  2. Fill in the first part

Start with who to call first and the health basics. If you only fill in one thing today, make it that. The Emergency Card is ready as soon as it is there.

  3. Share it with your family

Invite siblings, a spouse, or the parent themselves, as editors or viewers. Everyone sees the same, current plan. (Family plan.)

  4. Keep it current

Nearhand reminds you every three months to look it over. After a hospital stay, a medication change or a move, update it in a minute.

Everything the Kit had. Now it stays current.

Built from the six sections of the Family Care Coordination Kit (Edition 01), plus the things only an app can do.

  1. People & call tree

Who to call first, in order, with one-tap calling.

  2. Health basics

Medications, allergies, conditions and care notes, as your family records them.

  3. Where things are

Where documents, cards, keys and accounts are kept. Never the documents or passwords.

  4. Roles

Who handles what, assigned to real people so everyone sees their part.

  5. Hospital go-bag

A checklist of what to pack, what to bring and what to write down.

  6. Updates

Short family notes after appointments, so nobody has to call around.

  7. Emergency Card

The ten-second summary, on screen and printable.

  8. Printable care plan

The whole plan as a PDF, any time, on any plan.

One person sets it up. Everyone sees the same plan.

You stay the coordinator. You decide who's in the plan and what each person can see.

  • Coordinator

You. Sets up the plan, invites people, chooses what each person sees.

  • Editor

Can add and update. Good for the sibling who handles appointments.

  • Viewer

Can see the plan. Good for the brother across the country, or Mom herself.

Nearhand's Roles and People screens with a sample family: who handles what, and who to call first

Viewers see health details only if you allow it. Where things are kept stays hidden from viewers unless you turn it on.

Free to start. Pay only to share.

A map, not a vault.

Nearhand holds some of the most personal information a family has. So it's built to hold as little as possible, and to keep it between the people you choose.

  • Only the people you invite.

Every plan is private to its family. Nobody else can open it.

  • No ads. No selling.

No advertising trackers in the app, and your information is never sold.

  • Nothing sensitive in email.

Emails say something changed, never what. You sign in to see it.

  • Locations, not documents.

No uploads of cards, IDs or files. No passwords, PINs or account numbers.

  • Yours to take.

Download or print everything any time, on any plan, or delete your account.

  • A real person.

Questions go to Nate, who built it. Replies within 2 business days.

Nearhand helps you organise information. It isn't medical advice and doesn't replace your clinicians' records. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

Who it is for

  • The adult son or daughter who became the family point person, and would rather not be the only one who knows everything
  • Siblings who want to help but don't know what's needed, or where anything is
  • Families coordinating care for a parent or relative, near or far
  • Anyone who has sat in a waiting room trying to remember a medication dose

Who it isn't for

  • Anyone looking for medical advice, medication reminders or a health record. Nearhand organises what your family writes down.
  • Storing passwords, account numbers or document scans. It records where they are, not what they are.
  • Professional care agencies managing many clients. It's built for one family.

Edition 01

Nearhand grew out of the Family Care Coordination Kit.

The Kit was an 11-page plan you filled in once. It worked, until something changed and the PDF on three phones said three different things. Nearhand keeps the same six sections, and makes them one plan the whole family shares. The printable version is still there, free, whenever you want paper.

Questions

We reply within 2 business days (Monday–Friday, Mountain Time). Usually sooner.

Is Nearhand really free?

Yes. One person's plan, with everything in it, the Emergency Card and printing, is free with no time limit and no card. You only pay for Family, to share the plan live with others.

Is there an app in the App Store?

Not yet. Nearhand works in your phone’s browser, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app: in Safari, Share then Add to Home Screen; in Chrome, Install app.

Does it work without internet?

The live plan needs a connection. That is why the Emergency Card and the full plan print and save as PDFs. Keep one on your phone and one in the go-bag.

Is this medical advice? Will a hospital accept it?

No, and not necessarily. Nearhand organises information your family enters. The Emergency Card is a summary you can show or hand over; hospitals use their own records and processes.

Who can see my parent's information?

Only people you invite, depending on the role you give them. You choose whether viewers see health details.

Can I upload documents?

No, on purpose. Nearhand records where the originals are kept, so there is no copy of your family’s documents online to lose.

What happens if I stop paying?

Everything stays. You can still see, print and export it. Family members lose live access, and you can send them a printout.

Can my parent use it too?

Yes. Invite them as a viewer or editor. The text is large, the buttons are big, and there is a larger-text setting.

Do my family members need to pay?

No. One person pays for Family; up to 7 others join free.

Where is my information stored?

On our hosting provider’s servers in the United States. The Nearhand Privacy Policy has the details.

Is Nearhand available in Quebec?

Not yet. Nearhand is currently available in English for the rest of Canada and the United States.

I bought the Family Care Coordination Kit. What now?

Your PDF is yours to keep. Nearhand is the same plan, kept current, and it is free to start.

How do I get help?

Email nate.19692004@gmail.com. We reply within 2 business days (Monday–Friday, Mountain Time). Usually sooner. Please don't send medical details by email.

Nate Products is independent. Nearhand is designed, built and supported by one person in Calgary. When you write in, the person who answers is the person who built it.
